The Hilux ute retired to the concrete plinth with it's dignity intact and high commendations from the hosts, despite what they did to it
I agree with this. It is amazing what they did to try and kill that car - and the car ended up a star. But can anyone who saw that episode say they didn't enjoy it.
As with the Mini - yes, I'm disappointed it happened, but consider this. Why do they show little bits like that on promos for a show? To get publicity. It seems it has got a number of people on here foaming at the mouth - but you are all talking about it, which means it has achieved its goal. And I bet nearly everyone here watches the show, just to see what they actually do to it, and why (even if you say you won't). I know I probably will.
The Moke, on the other hand really was pointless (and this probably will be too) and would probably have been a harmless prank, if it hadn't been a bloody rare Export model.
But then, Top Gear is not exactly known for doing pointless stunts, are they? Like commuter bus racing, camper van racing, driving crappy Yank cars across crappy America, then trying to flog them to hurricane victims, after painting gay, anti religious and anti-American slogans all over them.
They do it for entertainment - and usually it works (although I was seriously disappointed with the first Aussie series) and it just coincides that they do it with cars.
Still without that useless blond git from the UK, who thinks he's an Aussie, maybe the show will be quite a bit better. And maybe it won't. I'm a fan of the UK show, so I'll reserve my opinion until after I see some of the next Aussie series.
Still, it would be nice to see a bit of balance - say with them showing something good about the Cooper S. It was listed in the latest issue of Top Gear Australia magazine as the all-time best car ever built in Australia - better than Falcon GTHO and Torana GTR XU1.
