I insured My Surf with Shannons as most companies run an hide when you mention Grey import, Spoke to a bloke over the phone who was more interested in seeing how his Shannons shares were going, whilst doing my quote an telling me how many houses he owns, Agreed value $11000 over the phone with $470 premium but when i get the written version its insured for market value $7500 and the premium is $500. Yes they need to improve their phone skills much heaps and perhaps master basic mathmatics, Goin to just cars, cheaper priemium and $10000 market value

Call shannnons again, and speak to someone else. The computer systems are pretty difficult and the difference between what he told you and what was sent on the forms you received in the mail is only how many times you hit enter or F3. If he messed up once, call and make sure.

I've heard nothing but good things about Shannons when it comes to claim time, and I've heard a lot of not so good things about Just Car. I'd prefer to pay the little extra for brilliant cover and real dependability. A little phone stuff-up isn't enough to turn me off, and it shouldn't be to anyone else who really values good quality cover.

They say that you get what you pay for...........insurance is the same

Shannons has been ok service wise to me. I only just recently signed up with them this year when my previous insurance was running out.

They were alot more expensive than my current insurer. The only reason I went with them was due to wreck retention. My premiums went up $110/year and my excess went up $600 over my previous policy through an insurance broker. That is for a list of nominated drivers only and agreed value.

Just cars may help. But you may only get 3rd party (fire & theft) until then.

Cheers,
Mark.

Welcome to Ausmini josh, Youl find most of the people on here are a wealth of Mini information... And were all fantasticly good looking too except for BIAM

But seriously give just car insurance a call or do their on line quote, i dont think youl get full comp but 3rd party is better than a poke in the eye with a blunt weasel

We've been with shannons for the last 3 years. Got 9 minis and house insured with them. Their prices are great, eg, my new rover im paying $964 a year, as all the rest i rang were over $1200 a year. BUT, for the life of me, they cannot get a policy right. Every single one car on our policy, something is wrong. Whether they stuff up a rego number, or as my 74 clubman states, "is an estate car" as no sedan/saloon version was offered in 74. They have listed me as both a 25 year old person, and a 26 year old person on my policy (altho I called an assured them that I am only ONE 26 year old person) so they send me out a new policy and they have changed something else for the worse. Its become a laughing matter. I call them everytime they send me a new policy and point out the mistakes, so they just send me another with new mistakes. So on the hunt for something else as well, too scared that if i actually make a claim they won't pay on account of their stuff ups on the policy.

when i first got my mini i was still on my green Ps and GIO insured me without any hesitation so you should be alright with GIO leighton as youre in a similar area so cant think of any other reason for refusal

does anyone in your family have insurance with Shannons? or could move a car over to them?

Shannon's do cover under 25's but at the moment you have to ahve a family member with a policy to get covered.

My son has his Volvo with them, was given rating one the week he got his licence (there is no justice in the world) and has been told he'd lose a rating point for every claim, cost was only about $100 more than 3rd party with the next cheapest quote.

I'm in the same boat as niceboy1275 too, we have some odd cars and the descriptions are never right, I spend 45 minutes on the phone updating details and values just a couple of weeks ago, have been told to ignore the descriptions as long as the engine and/or vin numbers are right.

BTW if you've read right through this thread you'll know that sometimes you need to ring a couple of times to get someone who knows what's going on

I have had my mini insured through NRMA as a daily driver for the last 3-4 years, which was my early twenties. Costs me mid $200's. But I am over 25 now, so not sure. NRMA have an online quote system that actually lets you choose 60's and 70's minis, unlike most other insurance quote websites. So you should be able to get a rough idea from that website what it would cost you.

Now that I am over 25 I am going to look for a cheaper deal, but I have no complaints about NRMA.

Cheers
Jonesy

Yea good luck. The website will allow $2890 maximum agreed value for any non Cooper mini, and $8,000 maximum for any Cooper S. AWESOME

Depending on the person though, for most young people getting their first mini, they usually can't afford anything much over 3K. So its a good option in my opinion for the under 25's.
