Cooper S rear drums NEW are like $55 each from Karcraft, and shoes are like $25 a set. My inlaws just bought them

Just got some interesting information.
The guy who built (by that I mean restored, and not the previous owner) my car 3 years ago works at a nearby mini specialist, and apparently the engine has an austin sprite head on it. Are they good or bad?
So, looks like I should be able to get the parts I need without problems!

i think that is a 12G206 head...... If so, it's better than a stock 12G202 (1100 head)

I put new brake shoes in the rear drums today, tomorrow I might do the fronts.
Once the new brakes are in, is it normal for the drums to still be slightly touching the pads, and not have the drums rotate freely? Will they need some time to wear in?

With new shoes you will probably hear them touching until the surfaces smooth off but the drums should still turn freely. Dont be suprised if they need re-adjusting after a few days as they smooth off.

One thing to watch out for when replacing shoes on a Mini is that you get them on the right way. There is a "Leading" and "Trailing" edge on each shoe. You'll see that the braking compond doesn't go all the way to one end of the metal body of the shoe. A lot of the manuals I've seen dont explain this very well in the text, but they usualy have a photo of the assembled unit - have a close look at which way is to the front and rear of the car in the photo and compare the shoe fitment on yours. If you have the shoes on the wrong way it makes it very hard/impossible to get a good adjustment, and it will wear one end of the shoe quicker than the other.

Another non eventful day.
The seats had been taken out recently to put the clubman ones in I got with the car.
Took a while to work out the thread size, but after putting the racing seats in this morning, I decided to go down to supercrap and get some bolts and try to work out the paint colour. Wouldn't you know it, flat battery!
So, I took the other car down, got what was needed and came back to put the clubman seats in again. I got halfway there, then decided the seats were crap, as they didn't function properly. Out they come.
I've sourced some more seats as a temporary fix, off the guy who owns the clubby I had years ago. It's still in bits, so borrowing the seats arent an issue for a while.
I'll get them tomorrow, as well as some disc brakes (maybe). We'll see how things pan out.

I'm miniless again!!

I left the the job of the roadworthy to my dad. I came home thursday night, and he'd taken it to mini bits in officer for the roadworthy and brake check, etc.
I was going to pick it up tomorrow, but some clever person forgot to give them the key to the security wheel nuts.
So, I won't be having it around here for a little while.
That'll give me time to clean up the disc brakes I got.
Mmm, CVJ grease, awesome stuff that is!

I was down there this morning to drop off the wheel nut thing. Didn't see a ute, but there was a cooper s for sale. I also got some Excel seats to put in it. The racing ones may be sold, and I don't like riding in clubby seats.

Nothing wrong with them at all.
They really are designed for a taller person than me, as I have very limited room to move my arms in them. You also can't get in the back, as they aren't reclinable, and don't meet ADR's (not road legal).
That and my dad can't get into or out of the drivers seat with them in without difficulty.
I figured that was his problem, but I have the same problem because of the high sides.
