This is a super old thread, but thought I'd just post here anyways.

I have a 3/71 Mini K that somehow made it to the US. I bought it from a man who had it in storage for 5 years in Missouri and now it resides in San Francisco, California.

Clubby door handles and twin tanks.

Sadly, the original 1098 had been swapped out at some point for an A+ 998.

No rust and quite a blast to drive!

People have already mentioned that some/many?? Ks became Ss. I would think this would be fairly easy because it would seem that at least the later Ks shared body styles with the S. While I have not seen a K with twin tanks, they did have things like the angled bonnet slam panel brace (used on the S to clear the oil cooler). I would suspect that the late Ks and MkIII S were indistinguishable body wise....

Cheers, Ian

Theres a lot of genuine MK2 Copper S's running around as mini k's. In the 70's & 80's John Schmidt from Mini Kingdom was buying ex police coopers & converting them into mini k's cause thats whet the people wanted, so if your mini k has twin tanks it could be more than what it actually is. Food for thought.

Mines a "k", it's been resprayed but has original seats under the covers, and a non functioning clubman radio, but in approximatley 2-3 weeks it's going to have a new sound system and hopefully new carpet, to match the interior. you can check it out in the evolution of minime thread.

i have a 69 k called Aubergine, late model engine 1293cc 45mm weber, good cam 4 point cage & harness x2 twin tanks drum brakes step drums hydolastic, soon to be changed to dry good engine. Went to get the gearbox fixed as it used to grind going back to 2nd. Aubergine went away for what was meant to be a week and came back three weeks later in time for our run. Aubergine lost 2nd, 4th & reverse gears. Now waiting on a reply back from the mechanics to see who is paying this time. IT WONT BE ME. They are the best engine builders but terrible gearbox people.

I reckon she's seen some track action at some stage in her life as I can see some shell racing stickers underneath the badly sanded down 2 pack

So how would one be able to tell that a Mini K had been converted from a Cooper?

I would say look for the tell tale Cooper mods like the vent hole behind the seats....you may be able to tell where the extra tank had been removed and the flares had been removed if you looked closely etc etc

Did Ks have a boot board :?: If so, whos got mine :!:  you probably could see evidence of rivetting or welding for the brackets inside the boot of an ex-S.

[inside the boot of an ex-S...INXS...get it  ....pathetic ]
