I thought you'd say that.

It's a commercially made part to fit that exact car, from a reputable manufacturer and sold by a reputable retailer.

That would stand up in court I reckon and it's certainly good enough to satisfy me.

Don't confuse Vic with other states. Things are often a little easier down here. :)

True!

Come to think of it, Rover high-back seats were not an option for an early Mini either. So technically they could be considered illegal too.

Who's to say there wasn't some strengthening done to the floor or cross-member to allow for the larger and heavier seat? How can you be sure unless an engineer signs it off... :)

The crossmembers are all tinny crap, even the later ones.
Too thin for what they do. I've lost count of the cracks I've welded for people around the captive nuts.
But hey the mounts still meet ADR3, = all good.

WOW, that's awesome. So on the basis of what you guys are saying here, I can legally 'bolt in' a bench seat from an EH Holden in to my 1968 Mini Deluxe (just to keep it all pre-ADR) and thats OK.

Thanks for your help on this conversion!

i've had no seats in mine for a while now... as i'm planning a seat conversion... but i must tell you that the temp one for moving it around my place is starting to grow on me... i reckon it might pass most adr's as it's obviously got some inherent strength as i've seen them holding hundreds of kilos at the local milk depot!

can't go past a milk crate and a cushion :P

Off topic, but the cops went to arrest a bloke down the street from me about 8 months ago. He came out with a knife, the cops fired 6 bullets and the guy still escaped ON FOOT?!

GT Mowog, how about just leaving the thread alone and letting it stay on topic instead of using your usual attempts to intimidate or bully your point across.

Not sure on Victorian Law, but in NSW that would not stand up. 'Reckoning' is not legally recognised over approved tests and experts (meaning qualified Automotive Engineer in this case) opinions. On a cursory forensic glance, that label fixed to the underside of the seat will bring you undone, unless you have an engineering approval, then the matter, if disputed, would no long reside between yourself, the authorities and your insurer, but between the authorities and the approving gingerbeer
