Do not cut corners on the car. Make the car safe first.

A standard seatbelt is safer than a badly fitted harness.
A standard seat is bad but so is a race seat that is not mounted properly.
Spend your money on the important safety stuff first like ball joints and brake hoses.

Some of the cheap helmets are a two piece outer shell Glued or welded together (I don't know which). They have standards approval, but I just can't bring myself to trust them, in my case my head is worth $700. Also another point is the eye aperture. Bike helmets generally have a wider aperture than a dedicated competition helmet, so if you want to use it on a bike keep this in mind.

I have a bit of experience in racing but not a lot.

I would not recommend putting the fuel line inside the car, as if this splits or disconnects in an accident or even everyday driving, you would get covered in it and the whole car inside of the car would become a fireball/ furnace.

I also would not be recommending putting brake lines inside the car either, due to the fact of the brake fluid being corrosive.

Anyway other people may have different thoughts on the matter.

CM.
