From your experiences which suspension should I go for? Cost and road performance are my criteria.
Option 1 (Coils lowered) 3%  3%  [ 1 ]
Option 2 (Coils standard) 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
Option 3 (rubber, hi lows conversion) 35%  35%  [ 11 ]
Option 4 (Hydrolastic) 61%  61%  [ 19 ]

Here is a pic of my car:

Image

I wasn't quite right with what I said before, the rear is higher by 1/8" when I actually held the tape measure there. I have the drivers side sit slightly higher to account for my weight when I am driving and it sits exactly even. The measurement from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the flare is 13" on the drivers side (both measurements).

Passenger side rear is 13 1/8" and the front is 13".

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks all for some great discussion regarding this. It is a big help to hear your experiences, cheers

Living in a regional area I am not able to meet with a regular club so the forums hear are a great help for me.

I am thinking at this stage of sticking with my original plans of trying to rebuild the hydro setup as long as I can get good second hand displacers and new pipes or hoses. Another criteria seems to be not setting the car up too low with hydro as pointed out I may as well use cones in that instance?

it just depends on what you want out of your car....

some of us drive them regularly, in all conditions and like the ride to be comfortable - and keeping them standard is often the best (and cheapest) way

others want them for a weekend play car, and can pick and choose the roads they drive them on. They also like the racy look of having them as low as possible, and don't mind sacrificing their ride quality for the feel of a race car

it's up to your preferences :)

Simon is spot on. I used to have mine really low - about 2.5 fingers worth of space between the tyre and bottom of the flare. Once Ash bought her new lancer (where the ride had already been 'improved') and we moved further out of town with poorer roads, it got to a point where I decided that we needed one car with good suspension.

My De Luxe has a more comfortable ride than some modern cars I have been in and would much prefer to travel somewhere in it. I use my car a lot and it was actually starting to become a chore to drive my car before I redid the hydro.

If you lived close to me I'd take you for a drive.
