My front number plate is under my bumper on the front apron. It passed regency with it like that, no mention hahahaha.

You have to stand a fair way back to see it, did all mini's have a number plate mount in front of the bumper as standard? My bumper mounts were ground off wen I bought my car (I didn't know anything about mini's when I bought it, I only worked it out later.)

I copped a fine in Junior without an Etag twice and each time was 100 bucks. First warning is 40 bucks, they never used to charge you for the first time but they sure as hell do now. I took our three cars through and got warnings, but when Lynda bought Beefa we got a warning plus 40 bucks.
I have since bought an Etag now anyway as we go through Melbourne to my folks place. Its cheaper than buying day passes and you can top it up online, add or remove cars and so on.

What size wheels are you running? 145's or 165's? I can see just how massive a hazard a 0.001" deep groove 145mm wide would be!

Hahahaha!! No I'm running 165mm destroyers!!

So my groove would be 0.0008" deep!!

Had another thought (very painful one too) on the way home last night while on Citylink and listening to my etag beep away - maybe it's something to do with the size of the plates. The one we seem to slip through on are slimlines - does this maybe form a part of the equation? do their slightly smaller characters sit a little bit further up under the front bumper of a Mini?

I have full size plates on the front but due to position under bumper it cant see them. The main difference is I put my rego sticker on the swing window on the passenger door. If it is on the windscreen the camera can see it and that is how they know who to send the fine to!

The one time I drove thru without being fined was when I first collected my car from the import warehouse. The car was still on English number plates :D
Even though I had arranged a temp rego, I never got fined. Their computer obviously doesn't talk to the VicRoads one, well not the one that holds temp rego's it would seem.

Yeah, I always thought that is the stupid (or good) part about permits. They have absolutely no way of tracing you if you are snapped by a camera. You would thing they would make you display the permit number on a bit of cardboard or something.

Of course, maybe they send the photos to the VicRoads offices, so when you turn up to register the car, you're sprung. But I doubt it.

It is interesting why some minis don't get sprung because motorbikes have smaller plates and rego stickers are almost impossible to see. I got sprung in my car by the rear number plate as the front was ripped off by a duck coming back from Wagga. Still isn't on yet and I still see it taken off my Etag account when I top it up online. Perhaps colour has something to do with it too....

MOD EDIT , as per the rules - 8. Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy or traffic violations are not allowed.

While it's borderline acceptible for people to discuss what problems they are having and why and to give hypothetical scenario's (hinged number plates etc ) , actually telling people your way of avoiding fines is not acceptible and will be removed as this post has been done .
