It's a bit grotty in there, looks to be a combination of rust (in places) and sludge...
Minis all love frequent oil changes, it keeps em clean inside. This one hasn't been getting them.

well it has been sitting for quite some time as far as I know... I have had the engine running, but not driving. Not driving due to clutch problems, so I just wanted to make sure it is okay to drive now that the clutch problems have been fixed.

I don't notice any noticeable problems, everything seems to look in reasonable condition.. then again I have no idea what I am looking at!

i THINK this is a 3 syncho box.. don't count me on it, doc or someone will enlighten me (im still learning on the boxes) but that looks the same 3 boxes i stripped the other day with the sliding 1st and reverse gear.., the ones that look worn on the edges there because of it??

As doc says, it don't look great,, Altho I've seen much much worse  try pulling it off the block to find the layshaft has dropped out from its circlip on the end, mmmm nice shiney gears and lots of shavings

It looks as if the box has been sitting there without any oil for quite some time?? As a rule for myself I always store engines with at least half a sump of oil in it, to keep things nice and "oily" :P

Yep 3-sync box, doesn't look too bad (well 1st/reverse isn't all mashed up so the teeth are half their length, so not too bad  )

cheers

Jacob

i wouldn't exactly be putting it back together unless it was all good and not visabily worn.. you've gone to the trouble of spiltting the block from the box, your best to do it now, rather than curse on the side of the road, when it keeps popping outta gear or wont go into gear...

I said "not too bad" not "Whack it back in there!"

"Not too Bad" meaning a decent candidate for rebuild...

Thanks,

hmmm, well, i'll have to see what i'm gona do with it..
Seeing as i plan on building a new engine/gearbox combo soon, i might just leave it be, and see how it go's. I'll give it a good clean of course.

But don't worry, if it all go's bad i'll be the first to say "you told me so"
