Great result Phill. I reckon no-one but the most finicky person would notice it's not like the original. But I agree, if the rosette was just a little bit smaller then it would be approaching perfection. It proves that using a small and robust press to do the embossing would probably achieve what we want on a repetitive basis.

It's more important for the rosette to be seen to be embossed than the BMC letters, I think. I wouldn't spend much effort trying to emboss BMC if it can't be done easily.

Thanks Doug. The original stickers are a metal foil so they could be pressed. Because these stickers are vinyl a press wouldn't leave an imprint, at least not one that would stay. But if you place a shape under the vinyl you get the result you see.

The way to go would be an accurately cut rosette shape to place under the these stickers.

The good thing about this method is it can never be pushed flat, in fact the more you press it the better it looks.

To get the embossed look I am going to try and cut around the old embossed rosette that's already on my seat buckle and then put the repro one over the top.

Gave it another go this time with a more accurately cut rosette drawn on the computer and very carefully cut with a scalpel. Tricky part is glueing the paper to the latch in the right position. I was slightly out on this one.

Slightly better result. It's not as obvious as the photos suggest. You have to look at just the right angle.

Looking good, Phill. Nice scalpel skills. Must keep you in mind for a cost-effective job should I need abdominal surgery in the future. And no, you can't practice first on a vasectomy - I'm past that.

Would it be easier to glue the paper to the back of the label instead? Might be able to get a more accurate position.

Re scalpel skils I use one a lot at work and there is a tool we use to safely remove the blade.

Well..... I'm not at work am I. Band-aid time.

If you try to put it on the back of the sticker you can't see where it should go. Plus if you stuff up you would never get it off the back of the sticker so sticker ruined. Plus you don't want to touch the back of the sticker as you want best adhesion possible around the edge of the paper.

I just carefully marked where the centre of the rosette and the end of the ribbon should be. I was just a little bit out when I placed the sticker on top.

Anyone thought about reproducing the Leyland seat belt stickers?
