Coatsie

The subframes on my 1964 car were zinc plated too.

When he first did it Neville his engineer said to me the other competitors
complained saying they must be made from "alloy" .

He must have learnt a thing or two when working at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation as some of the nuts and bolts used on the car appear to be very light weight, possibly aircraft quality.

Yes, Neville Watts told me that Manton often used aircraft grade nuts and bolts because they were lighter but strong.

Zinc plating involves the electrolytic application of zinc by immersing clean steel parts in a zinc salt solution and applying an electric current. This process applies a layer of pure zinc that ranges from a few microns on cheap hardware components to 15 microns or more on good quality fasteners. Technical and cost issues prevent the economical plating of components with heavier coatings.

Galvanization, or galvanisation, (or galvanizing as it is most commonly called in that industry), is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanizing, in which parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc.

or whatever! :D
