Hey Tiny,

if you want your Mini fixed, stick to Ausmini, Ausmini knows what it's talking about.

Maybe see the usual mechanics when you want your commodore, falcon or magna fixed, it's what they do. Repair by replacement until the problem goes away.

Ausmini will point you towards the 15 cent connector instead of the 150 dollar alternator most times to cure your woes.

Tiny, the guy you spoke to is contradicting himself. He's said it won't do anything because the mini already gets cold air (?), but also that it will screw your mixture.....how can both be true? It's been proven that the ram effect on a mini is as close to zero as counts, so you need to make sure intake temperature is what you're chasing, not any kind of dream of forced induction.
He is not contradicting himself, The standard intake gets cool air (just as cool as behind the grille) but making the intake pipe longer to reach behind the grille will give a longer intake tract and that will screw with the mixture. 8) Quite simple really!

Before following the sheep you have to work out if your wonderful modification will improve the car or if it will just add weight.

The cold air intake is a good example of following the sheep.
Do you know what the air temp is behind the grille?
Do you know the air temp near the carby?

Have you ever seen an SU carby freeze up in winter? 8)

Morris1100, ok now you're being a little ambiguous...if not contradictory :)

You say the carb already gets air as cold as behind the grill....then you ask if we've ever seen an SU ice up....implying the cold intake will cause this? (That's how I read it anyway) Again, it can't be both....

Yes I realise it provides a longer track, but the one shown is of such a large bore I really really doubt it will provide enough of a pressure drop to make it run rich...

I believe he is implying that without the CAI the carb is already capable of icing up in colder weather (and they do) so therefore a CAI is pointless.

I have run one on my car and it did SFA.

Vizard has also said this.

Cush is merely taking the piss and does not believe it to be a serious 'performance' mod..

Don't get me wrong, nowhere have I said these are a good or worthwhile thing on a mini. However I am questioning some of the reasons given for them being a bad idea, that's all.

Coke got in trouble for those bottles because it promoted paint sniffing (!?! ).

Apparently they should have forwarded the isea onto the community youth health groups for approval first (?!? ) because this is what a clear bottle looks like when you use it for chroming (paint sniffing).

So do you sniff paint Cush?
