Maybe californian is the equivilent of cooper s in that some people don't realise it's a specific model and refer to the entire series of cars in that way, ie: if you own a clubby and a non mini person says 'nice mini cooper'.

Good advice...soooooo....if anybody finds a genuine 80-82 Cali with CORRECT plate give me a shout.

That way I avoid the indignity of Ausmini members saying "its not a real one" :D

My first 79 1275 Cali had it fitted and I think that there is all the usual references to it in the 79 and latter owners book.

If you want to know which Mokes had the air pump just look for ADR27a on the compliance plate.

The air pump etc fitment was a pretty stupid idea really..
"oooh the CO and Nox % is too high in the exhaust- lets use more fuel and waste power to drive an air pump to dilute the % emissions out the tailpipe.."
There was probably more grams/mile of both emitted after they did this, due to the extra fuel burned.

True, very true, and the authorities knew all too well what they did and how they did it.......but it did allow them to pass the ADR27A.

I said best in my opinion. Not everyone agrees with me. :)

I just like all the visual differences that make it unique - rear guards, lights, the granny's curtains top and I think the rear-monted tank was a very good use of space that is otherwise wasted. Also the non-detoxed 1275 from the factory and a few extras such as hazard flashers and little removable panels in the inner guards make maintenance easier. 8)

I'm not a fan of the late-Cali look with the white bullbars and sunraysias. I prefer the simpler bumpers of the earlier models and a nice set of mags or widened steelies.

Cheers,

Cheers,

The early export 72 - 73 Californians also have a slightly heavy but much stronger body. From what I understand, these Mokes were required to meet certain crash test standards and so that is why the bodys were a bit different and the fuel tank (MG Miget / AH Sprite) was put in to the rear.

I'm surprised that this Moke didn't sell-not one bid
It looks like a nice Moke and I'd like to think that the person selling the Moke is a nice genuine person and needs the money for a honourable reason.
Oh well better luck next time :)

Yeah me too.... except.... well,,, when half a dozen people point out to you that the item you are selling is clearly not what you are drumming it up to be... and you basicly tell them to piss off... thats hardly honerable. Thats deseptive.

I don't really care how many threads pop up say "leave sellers alone", if some bastard is going to try and sell something for $18,000 more than its worth, and is fully aware that it is not worth anywhere near that.. then you are not going to stop me from telling others to be aware.

Hey Kat, I'm with you. The seller is dishonest, not dumb, just dishonest.

Yeah, but I always wanted a car with a gulp valve.

STI owner - "how do you like my blow-off valve?"
Me - "Pfft- dime a dozen, my car has a gulp valve"

regratably here's another one, but not nearly as 'bad' as the $25k one;-

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mini-Moke-1973-C ... 2a040a1844

It does look OK in the pics but while it is an early moke, it is not an (export) 1973 Californian. Wrong body.....
