Two.

One normally open relay to provide power to the relay when you turn the light switch on.

And one changeover relay to change the light from low beam to high.

There's wiring diagrams in the how-to section to show you how.

Or just two normals...one on high circuit and one on low.....

That's what I have on my cars, it was simpler at the time..

I prefer to fit a proper headdlamp double relay, New Era or similar. The New Era one comes with 2x 30A plug-in blade fuses on it.

Definitely

since you bumped it up Tim, I shall comment that since installing the lights and bulbs 55/60 I am not finding them as good as I had hoped. Not as bright as I had hoped. Still much better than the lucas ones, but I will be wanting to get some brighter bulbs for my Sydney road trip for sure. Something to keep in mind for others buying the 55/60 bulbs.

Thing to remember is if you have plastic reflectors or lense you can't really upgrade the globes as they will generate more heat and melt the plastic.
I have 100/160 watt globes in NAV but I also have glass lights so heat isnt as big an issue.

bought some 100/90watt globes now on special :). wont have time yet to get them in straight away, but i couldn't find any 100/160 matt?? are u sure it was this high?

so is anyone able to tell me what Matt means by plastic lense??

I have the angel eye headlights with plastic buckets behind, if this helps?

Am I able to put the 100/90 lights in without having something catch on fire?

The lens is the clear "cover" I s'pose you'd call it on the front of the headlight assembly.

Look at things this way... In the guts of the assembly you have the globe itself.. Behind & around it is the roughly conical reflector, and the lens is across the front. Usually it's glass, but sometimes it can be made of plastic.

Many Minis had "sealed beam" lights, which had no separate globe, just the filaments (the bits that actually get hot makes the light) sitting directly out in the middle of the unit. The reflector & lens were then sealed to make the whole thing into one big globe.

I think I understand, but have no clue how to tell myself from looking outside.. :( might be a dum dum question, but if this helps these are the lights I have below. Not sure if someone is able to tell me if those 100/90 globes will be safe in these, without burning the plastic if it has it??

the lights won't work very well once it's all melted and sagged...

you should be able to tell the difference between glass and plastic - you can tell the difference between a plastic beer glass and a glass beer glass can't you?

If it was a plastic beer glass, it wouldn't be glass, would it?

Hi Lockie, sorry I did not get to read this before. I advice you not to use any Bulbs higher than 65/55Watt on these head lights or you will melt the material they are made from. There should be a warning sticker on the back that says so. For better light intensity I would highly recommend you wire up relays. See you at the Muster I hope.

While we're on the topic, and at this stage just out of interest, what do people who know more than me reckon about these lights: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mazda-RX7-80 ... 45fcb5d4f4

I have not got the best vision and personally hate:

    people with "blue" light bulbs
people with lights that although directed correctly appear far brighter than normal (HID's?)
people who constantly drive around (illegally) with fog lights or driving lights on with low beam.

There is nothing wrong with the normal h4's. If someone does do country driving then driving lights are fine. Driving around town qtih bright lights is pointless.

These are HIDs

You know all the young ricers and idiots who drive around with lights that incredibly white?

Those are HIDs

Honestly, H4's with a relay is more than ample
My daily has a generator and old yellow candles, they're ample too.

Sorry to tell you but HID's are illegal in cars not originally fitted with them as main lights.
I agree with the others tho. A good set of H4 halogens did the trick for me in my mini.
Using HID in the spotties is ok though
