I guess saying 'no problem' was a big call. But respect does go along way to help.

the other day I saw a lowered statesman get pulled over, as I approached, the officer got out of his car and looked very intently at my mini - I got closer and realised it was a fella in my car club who gave me a great big thumbs up :D

from what we were told its because a 1275 wasnt an option in an early mini.. only a cooper s

i guess it would be fine for a leyland tho ..

It really depends on the car club, the plate inspectors who sign off on the car and the rules of the state in which is issuing the historic plates.

In NSW the regulations clearly say that the car is to be unmodified. Now that is a big sweeping statement when you consider things like radiator hose clips, brake master cylinders and fuel pumps etc etc.

However, a 1275 in a mini that wasn't originally fitted with a 1275 is a modification, in the same vein, an ej panel van fitted with a holden V6 and all the computer system is also modified. Strictly speaking neither is eligible for historic plates.

In our club we have both cars and our plate inspectors are happy that provided the cars meet legal requirements and are road worthy then they are good crowd attracting vehicles and the members attend club meetings and events then they award club plates.

In NSW there are fairly strict rules about the use of a club historic plated vehicle. In that it can only be used for club sanctioned runs (and some maintainance runs) and on occasions special permits are granted by the club for participation in other activities.

Recently our club granted a member a travel permit for that member to take his historic car to Tasmania to survey a route for a possible future club event. Its all within the frame work of the rules and regulations.

However, even our club would not issue historic plates to a member who had a heavily modified sedan dragster, fully tubbed and with all other modifications. Commonsense applies.

Mike

Sadly this has been an ongoing issue for our club member (Original thread)

Each car club in the ACT drew up it's own set of regulations on what was eligible for Historic Rego or not. Our club devised a list based on Period style modifications.

These were then to be presented to ACT Rego for ratification....
A trial was done with the Morris Minor Club - and after considerable tooing and froing was accepted.

Due to this no other clubs submitted there Regulations until we could get a Pro Forma from Rego to simplify it for them and us - and this hasn't happened.

So Rego's current stance is that for all other Clubs it has to be "As it came from the factory" - which is not the understanding of the "Council of ACT Car Clubs" . (Would invalidate many Historic cars rego in many clubs currently) So currently being negotiated (for a better word)

As I am building a period Rally car with the aim of Historic plates will have to see where this is at when it's time to get it registered. ( Does "Works" count as factory ??  )

Interesting choice from SA? Considering they operate (SA Govt that is) by http://www.sa.gov.au/upload/franchise/T ... storic.pdf (refer para 8.19) it seems odd they would not accept a 1275.

From what I can find the MkI had an option for a 1275, as did all subsequent mks so you should be good to go. However....that is a 1275 not a bored out engine as that would be considered a performance enhancing modification
