how does the avonbar cam compare to the Turbo Re13 cam.
I would love to know for my super charged motor.

the cam before this one was the kent turbo version KC500 and it was pretty tame, by what i have read and now the way this cam seems to work and idle its massive but awesome mid and just keep pulling to well over 7k on 10 psi.
james has the RE13 turbo version in his 998 turbo special.

well its about time, this weekend i will be pulling the motor back out to replace the avonbar PH3 turbo cam with a GR RE13T cam, I went to see GR today and he has all but finished the cam so all i have to do is fit it and then take the motor back to him for another dyno session where i would like to crack the 180bhp mark and 150 torque mark.

i will keep you posted

ok so the results are in.

to cut to the point on 12-13 psi at 7,000rpmit made 173HP and was still making good torque and hp as the revs kept climbing, i think it would have made 177 to 80 at 7500rpm but we did not want to push it too much more as its still pretty fresh engine.

GR was more than impressed and happy with it, it still made over 100 nm torque at 3500 so it should be great on the road as the torque is just long and fat.
so all in all im very happy with it as i know that as soon as i fit an intercooler and raise the boost to 15-16psi it will be well over 200hp.

hope fully the motor will be back in the car next weekend and i'll let you know how it goes.

thats great, im busy putting a 1300 turbo moor together for a customer who is avidly watching this thread, were only hoping for 130hp anything more is a bonus.
he is running an intercooler etc.
Gr did the pistons for the motor and a Turbo cam also so should be quite interesting.
he just wants to beat my N/A mini motor with 140hp at the crank.

great numbers there grant, was a pleasure to be able to come and watch it run on the dyno. Amazing what you have done with the old a series, bring on the intercooler and boost and no doubt there is 200hp hiding in there.

Be interesting to see what it does on the chassis dyno at the next ausmini dyno day, that way we can see how much power the gearbox saps out of it.

hey thanks for the words guys,

well i got 14.4 last time on the dyno and i have no idea what the power was in the motor so i hope to go into the 13's for sure GR siad it should be pretty easy to get the 13 sec so fingers xed

Jai,

with this cam i am sure it will get 130 on moderate boost, i am running omega forged pistons i got from uk and they are sweet. a nice head with good valves and a fully balanced bottem end it should see those numbers for sure.

Brad,
yeah good to see you guys there made me feel good to have some of the MDC boys there, just have to save more more coin.

Grant

Totally reccommend the PWR "Barrel" type cooler ....

heaps smaller and a lot more efficient than a traditional Air-to-air 'coolers ....

remember, water is 14 times more thermal conductive than air ........
