Sorry mate but you will not be running state rounds with your own rules  why do you think the MRA was started

Jon

If I build my car following IPRA rules then I can run in the IPRA series, I'm not suggesting to run the state rounds (whatever that means).

MRA was started cause super minis don't want to run with sports sedans for the reasons I stated regarding speed difference. MRA saw a need and filled it.

There is no need to revive exactly the old 1000 series, I doubt many of the original cars still exist, I believe alot are now Nb/Nc cars. We have to establish what the new need is and follow that, I'm just making suggestions of direction which a round table discussion of interested parties would surely solve.

Hey Daniel,

I see your point however this IS about getting the Mini1000/1100 going...
Do me a favour, leave the analasys of the rules behind for a bit and lets get talking to the people who will make this happen.

Its about an affordable race for Minis thats what we should see the plan as at the moment.

Having said all of this, I think I see that there is a genuine interest in this. There are 10 YES votes (and I am sure a few of them are 'maybes) but we have a handful ready to go for it.

Ill talk to GR again and see where he is at... and let you know the 'next steps'

Lets get this thing going... woohoo.

Cheers,
Peter.

Howdy,

So, its all looking good.
We have support from the MRA for a race but obviously details TBD.
Graham was talking (or is talking) to Brian Walden at the moment to nut out a few bits and bobs.

We would love to be able to get on the track at the next Wakefield race in February... ill post more details asap.

Also, if you would like copies of MRA rules and Guidelines, please visit the MRA Website or let Brian know (username MRA)

Peter.

OK,

Brian (MRA) sent me some forms... if anyone would like the rules/regs and sign up forms let him know or I can send you a copy. (As mentioned above, most rules and details are on the MRA website (www.miniracingaustalia.com.au)

Cheers,
Peter.

So is the idea still to run in the same race event as the 'super minis'?

i reckon you should follow a guideline for the series, ie, copy the brittish mini racing classes and categories, that way everyone is catered for.. i would love to be part of this series but i cant because im running a 1275 a+ motor.. so maybe we should have more then just the small bores? also wouldnt it be illegal to run the sfi or whatever it is suits? you can pick up cheap fia approved ones now days.. also with the tyres.. the tread patterns your talking about cant be superior in any way to todays patterns.. also, i know that road tyres on a track will pretty much melt within a few decent laps.. and this will end up costing people too much money so i dunno if that is wise.. and finally why not make the series reasonably big venue wise, like host a few rounds in each state depending ofcourse on the interest.. i know i wouldnt mind going up to sydney to race and vise versa for people from there. it would bring more people into the series and, im sure the general public would love seeing the minis racing. im sure you could contact sbs and get some tv coverage too. this has potential to be really big for an entry level series.. so in my opinion we should all try and make it as good as we can.. but then its up to the people in charge so il leave my thoughts with you

Hi people

Garry from Wakefield has told us today that we will be running on AASA licenses this year and the cost of the license will be $60 with no medical required at the moment, those with Wakefield licenses will get reimbursed for the time left on there current license :D

The other good news is that Brian has been able to negotiate with the authorites for the issue of fuel log books for those competing so that they can get 100 octane leaded fuel for there cars

Jon

Update,

I finally got to see an MRA meeting last weekend and can say that I am less concerned about the speed difference that I was previously.

Fact is, there isn't enough laps and wakefield is too short a circuit to make it a problem. The lead cars lap at around 1:08-10 which means you can lap at around 1:20 and still not get caught by the end of the 8 lapper.

After the start the cars quickly disperse and allows each competitor ample track room. Dicing amongst the field seemed considerably friendlier than other categories of biff/barge with notable caution by all.

The other interesting feature is that many of the super minis are not as fast as I expected. Henry Draper was lapping at 1:14 flat in an Nb (narrow tyres/no flares) and the fastest Super Mini (Not Honi) was 1:11.74 (C Adlam).

What does this all mean? Well I reckon alot of you young blokes with your small bores could easily take it to the big guns and actually be lapping at a competitive pace without much set-up cost.

I actually would feel more comfortable amongst this field than the regular no speed limit hoons I have been driving on track with. There is no hostility and pretty much it's a spectacle in itself to watch a complete field of Mini's on track.

All I need now is a Cage and belt!

Daniel
