There have been some posts here recently about Wibroc mirrors, like the ones on later clubman models, which prompted me find what I had.
I uncovered some parts of several old mirrors and had them rechromed, but needed 2 mounting plates. I had a go at making them from an original sample - the same as the original factory plans posted elsewhere.
Finished the first 1 but now discover the base part of the mirrors look the same but have different methods of attaching to the mounting plate.

In the photo, the mounting bracket (far right) fits the base next to it. This is the style that the factory drawings are for.
The base on left has a screw-on plate and would need a different mounting plate. I'll have a go at making something to suit.
Just worth realising there are different types of bases needing suitable mounting plates, which often seems to be the missing bit for people looking for these mirrors.

Well spotted, Bill.

I reckon there's an opportunity for someone to do a service to the BMC/Leyland community, and maybe make some pocket money on the side. There must be lots of Wibroc mirrors sitting unused because the mounting plate is lost or damaged. Laser cut the base using the sheet metal specified on the original part, then a jig of some sort to apply the creases and bends and drill. A run of say fifty surely wouldn't take too long to sell would it?

Hand-making just one copy was a pain in the vice jaws.....
And which one do you make? There are at least 2 versions.

I've got a sheet metal mate that ill be asking about the bases. He has a full factory workshop so shouldn't be too hard

The original bracket has strange end treatments - both slightly curved but I am not sure what the shapes were meant to achieve. I think the design could be simplified for small scale manufacturing and still work well.
The location of the mounting screws (by the 2 end holes) were very close to each end, interfered with shaping the 2 ends but I think they are located close to the ends to stiffen the bracket where it holds the mirror base unit.

Good news, easy to make and should be cheap. Just need to know about the curved ends. Are they just for strength or for fitment? Without the curved bit either side of the 'kick' they will be very quick and easy for him. I'll pay the cost and charge for risk and get maybe 50 made

I don't have a mirror but pretty sure the rounded kick-up end takes the securing screw from the mirror base so that would need to be precise. The squared end slots in to the other end of the base. The raised sections I reckon are to give the end bits strength as they would be levered up upon an impact to the mirror. It's probably a weak spot in the design.

Would a tiny spot weld be a suitable alternative to give strength in those areas?

By the way, have you tested a cardboard version of the bracket shown in the drawing to confirm it's correct?

So the holes, the cut shape and the angles on the end are fine but the right side has two "pinched" ends as indicated on the top picture. This is the only issue for a fast cheap job. I have a mirror but no mount to compare! Image

Edit, haven't tested card but will test the first one he makes. If we are talking about the same bit, he will delete it and make it out of stainless so no extra strength needed.

If it is any help, here are some more photos of the Wibroc mounting plate. The large end faces forward and locates the locking grub screw from the mirror base; the narrower end fits into the drilled hole of the mirror base.

The mounting plate is 16mm at its widest. I am not sure why the square end has a waisted section. The gap in the mirror base is about 17mm wide so there is clearance.
The strength of the mount plate comes from having the attaching screw holes so close to the upturned ends.
