Some people like to add a lead substitute. Some use hardened valve seats. All depends on the amount of use and personal preference I suppose. |

Not all minis pre-2000 were leaded. The cars built built somewhere around 88-90 were okay for unleaded from factory. Lots of engines have also been rebuilt these days at some stage or another and were probably converted too. |

Depending on the type of engine you choose 98 octane fuel can be a real waste. And a $16 (ish) bottle of Flashlube will treat 1000 litres of fuel should you not have hardened valve seats. Cheers, Ian |

I find mine runs better on the 95RON than the 98 and I put a 20ml syringe in the tanks and works well. Oh to get my hands on some tetraethyl lead and see what happens...apart from a fine I suppose |

I agree with 1071S . Engine compression is the main determinant of octane needs, which engine do you have? |
