Hey brains trust. I have a '67 deluxe that was hydro that has since been converted to a dry setup. I am looking to replace the front subframe as mine has cancer inside the towers and has had a hit at same time prior to me owning the car. My question is will a later model clubman subframe fit a deluxe and how should I measure a subframe to check whether it is true and not bent? I don't need a hydro subframe as my car is no longer genuine (dry suspension, front discs and 1275). Would a Rover front subframe fit? I'm looking for a front subframe from a later model than the Deluxe in the hope that there is no rust or damage. Any ideas on an estimated price for a second-hand front subframe?

there are measurements in the scientific publications manual, but you're really checking for squareness so measuring diagonally from the rear ears to the opposite side tie bar ought to be enough?

A Rover subframe will fit but requires extra mountings so probably isn't the best idea, a subframe from a post '74 clubman is your best bet.

If I was you I'd go and see Matt Read, he ought to have one sitting in a pile

The later ones had a single bolt on the top of the suspension towers, Aussie cars all had the earlier two bolt/stud type

I’ve never tried, but I assume they aren’t easily compatible?

They mount differently at the rear. They have a rubber mount that goes between the subframe and body

They also have teardrop rubber mounts at the front.
I don't like them, when you wiggle the steering wheel, the whole subframe moves laterally in the body.

Find an Oz subframe, wet or dry, both fit fine for dry suspension. :wink:
