I'm trying to seperate my drive shafts from the CVs so I can clean, inspect and hopefully re-use them. I've watched a couple of videos on how to get the out but mine don't want to play. One side eventually gave in but the clip broke and there is some damage to the end of the splines. I've given up on the other side as It just won't give and I'm worn out. Any tricks I need to know? |

I hold the drive shaft vertically with the CV hanging down and try to push the CV up and down on the end of it to centre the circlip. I then give the CV a good hard hit with a 2lb hammer while the CV is still hanging down. Don’t be sympathetic or half hearted (and watch out for your feet). |

Same as Phil with CV in the vice. When I hit the CV with the big hammer I have the opposite side of the CV either up against the side of the vice body or use another hammer to stop the CV flicking sideways. The energy of the hit is lost if the the CV can move when hit. When reassembling, I file out any sharp edges on the circlip - don't know whether it makes any difference. |

I had the problem once, no way it would come, it needed a new CV so I cut the old CV through the middle to get at the damned clip and save the S driveshaft. |

I remembered Drmini's experience when I wrote my reply, but didn't want to depress Hawken by mentioning it. |

Well i'll be replacing the CV's. I bashed and I bashed. Even gave the block splitter a go. ![]() In the end I resorted cutting the cage with the Angle grinder to get the balls out and disasembled it that way |

Well, the bigger hammer didn't work this time. Bad luck. You win some.... |
