Post subject: | Manifold gasket - any sealant required? |
G'day, Got another question for the brains trust. I'm bolting on my extractors and inlet manifold ready to whack the motor in and wondering if I need any sealant applied to the gasket. I have had 2 different schools of thought on this - one being that nothing is required and the other is to put a thin smear of graphite grease on to help the seal. The motor is an 850, the extractors are the Maniflow C-STR6816 and the inlet manifold is an alloy one C-AHT770. The gasket I'm using is one from Karcraft part number AJM601. The gasket looks like it has a metal inside and both outside surfaces are a grey colour. One side of the gasket is very smooth and the other is a bit rougher. I've checked that the thicknesses of the extractors and inlet manifolds are the same and all good there. Apart from the sealant question, does it matter which side of the gasket goes to the head? Thanks, Rocky |

No need for sealant, and smooth side against the head |

I use a thin smear of grease on the carb side only if you plan on removing the carb/manifold a few times in the future. That way the gasket doesnt stick and rip. Otherwise install dry Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

When using a weber for example and you need to remove when tuning to replace the chokes. Real pain to pull the studs out each time to replace. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Thanks for the quick replies Simon and MINI66. I'm fitting an 1 1/2 SU and hopefully I don't need to pull the inlet manifold off. As a matter of interest, what grease do you use MINI66? I gather the use of graphite grease is an old school thing? |
