When driving JAM, I seem to be changing gear at 5000rpm, according to my tacho. It doesn't sound like the motor is doing 5000 rpm....so can a tacho be reading out?

Well, if your tacho was set for a 6 or 8 cylinder (aftermaket one) car then it would read wrong, otherwise be thankful for a nice quiet engine.
It'll get louder with age.
Is it the stock tacho?

Is the beast registered yet?? :D

I wouldn't bet on its accuracy, it's a Smiths...

They all have pisspoor damping and jump around with the vibes of a Mini.

Clubby one should not be miles out though, if reading steady.

hmmmm.....its standard tacho and loom etc...only non standard is the dizzy and coil.

Maybe I am taking it to 5000 each gear.....it does it with ease!

With the work your 1098 has, 5000 is a breeze. Don't believe all the BS from people that say 1098s don't rev and can't be made to.
Vizard was wrong... ask GR. Or all the guys racing 1098 Sprites.

My 1100 loved to rev out. Fairly stock apart from sprite head and exhaust.
Never struggled to get to 5000, but you sure knew about it from the noise.

Have you done a double check against the speedo?
You know your diff ratio xx = ??kph @ 5000rpm

It's probably OK, it's just running super sweet 8)

I need to take you for a run in Lillee anton... She goes ballistic from 2500 to 5500 in very short time indeed! I am sure jam rides the RE13 like an out of control freight train from 2500+... I'd be purprised if it didn't actually.

You can borrow my Fiat tacho if you want, it's very accurate 8)

Get a cheap digital one from an electronics shop, and mount it where it can't be seen except when its on.
