When driving JAM, I seem to be changing gear at 5000rpm, according to my tacho. It doesn't sound like the motor is doing 5000 rpm....so can a tacho be reading out? |

Well, if your tacho was set for a 6 or 8 cylinder (aftermaket one) car then it would read wrong, otherwise be thankful for a nice quiet engine. It'll get louder with age. Is it the stock tacho? Is the beast registered yet?? ![]() |

I wouldn't bet on its accuracy, it's a Smiths... ![]() They all have pisspoor damping and jump around with the vibes of a Mini. Clubby one should not be miles out though, if reading steady. |

With the work your 1098 has, 5000 is a breeze. Don't believe all the BS from people that say 1098s don't rev and can't be made to. ![]() Vizard was wrong... ask GR. Or all the guys racing 1098 Sprites. ![]() |

My 1100 loved to rev out. Fairly stock apart from sprite head and exhaust. Never struggled to get to 5000, but you sure knew about it from the noise. |

Have you done a double check against the speedo? You know your diff ratio xx = ??kph @ 5000rpm It's probably OK, it's just running super sweet ![]() |

Get a cheap digital one from an electronics shop, and mount it where it can't be seen except when its on. |
