I have assembled my diff with new planet gears and thrust washers and diff pin and sun gear thrust washers.
However, I have 0.023” float on both drive shafts !
As the angle of the teeth on the planet gears are 30 degrees, I have calculated that I should be able to fit a 0.040” shim (old thrust washer) behind the new thrust washers of the planet gears to take all of the clearance out.
Is this something I should do, or just leave it with the clearance.

That's unusual, usually I find the new fibre washers are too thick and the shaft ends are hitting the spacer. Then I need to machine the spacer or shaft ends.
Edit:
I don't believe the clearance will be a problem.
You could find another diff hemisphere in better condition, I have quite a few here if you need one.

But I prefer the bronze washers used in old Mk1 boxes up to `69? They don't self destruct in dirty oil like fibre eventually does.
John Smidt might still have some....
