What is the maximum term you should leave something in primer(etch or primer filler) without having to apply a top coat? |

depends on storage conditions. Primer is porous so the metal can rust through the primer. I would think only a month or so, but in a warm dry shed, you may get longer. KB |

I wouldn't leave it more than a few weeks. Primer is porous and the rust will make you cry. It's best not to start painting until you have all the equipement, materials, time and motivation to finish the job ![]() |

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think 2pack primer is non porous and would be best if you have to leave it for long. |

2 pack primer is the duck's guts, IMO... ![]() Leave as long as you like, it's not porous like the cheap stuff. You could probably get it wet and it wouldn't matter. Brad says it doesn't go too hard with age either. Not cheap though- I got some the other day from VG Auto Paints- $51 for 1.25L (1L paint & 250ml hardener). |

sry just going a little off topic, but i was told that there wasnt any real difference in quality between ppg cheap stuff and ppg expensive stuff, aparently, the difference between them is that the expensive stuff is made to match existing paintwork, whereas the other stuf is good for entire resprays .... |

Davo, if you want to prime something, maybe to protect bare metal, and then leave it for ages......do it! Just remember to sand it off and reprime it before applying any top coat. That way you will be sure nothing has manifested under it ![]() |

I love the space you've got for your project. Wish I had a shed that big! ![]() I am...the bonnet is almost prepped for painting as is the bootlid. Next I'll hit the doors...Only reason ive been able to progress with the removable panels is because I can bring them up to the garage up here to do at night with a heater ![]() Now I want to spray them so they wont rust!!! Hence I'll prob prime them and leave them be for now, although I could apply a black undercoat I have and let them sit in that! ![]() I have my boot floor tacked in but have to finish that....then the front floors and I'll start to tackle the rest of it. Im hoping to have it painted by January/February..... |
