Post subject: | mini????? |
here are some photos of a mini i brought about 12 months ago from a farmer out west. it was just sitting in his paddock rotting away. He claimed its a S but i am still unable to identify it. I have so far stripped the car ready for sandblasting and respraying. It has all the S parts that i know of but i just cant find a body number anywhere. Any ideas???? I am a little concerned about how i get it registered if it has no numbers at all. [img][/img] ![]() ![]() |

Have you got the engine number? That'll be a start. Looks legit, and early with that boot lid, if it's original. |

The lack of an Id plate would make me suspect that it is a 1969 Cooper S with an 850/Cooper boot lid. The English boot lid and the Aussie doors should not be on the same car! No Id plate = 69 Plastic master cylinders = 69 and later VH44 = MK 2 Boomerang steering wheel = MK 2 Air filter = MK 2 We need a pic of the heater. There may be a number on the inner guard just above the radiator. The engine number = Mk 1 |

here are some pics of the heater unit and the engine bay. you can see the areas i have stripped back to try and find a number and them put primer back on. is the picture of the radiator housing where you would find the numbers?? as you can see i have also stripped it back to look. Should be a number on top of the radiator shroud, in between the 2 little rubber retainer slits. |

there are two small holes drilled on the driver side of the fire wall were it looks as if there could have been an id plate, you can just see in the photos, not sure if this is any help??? also the engine is a mk1 but it has a 940 head is this unusual??? |

Later Cooper S had the 12G940 head (10 studs & 1 bolt) usually also stamped 12G1805 in small letters, on top near the thermostat housing. Not sure what date they changed from AEG163 to this head though. Probably around 68-69? |

Heater is not an Australian MK1 or Mk2 heater (more like UK very late MK2 or Mk3/4 I think). |
