Post subject:  Couple of questions about my cooper s
Just a couple of questions.....what colour is the generator and starter motor supposed to be on a mk 1 s and also what colour interior mirror ? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Genny and starter were painted metallic green with the rest of the donk.

Mirror was a greyish colour but I don't know the name. It might be in the tech drawing.

no worries, I thought as much but wasn't sure about the interior mirror. I have the one your talking about so that's good. I saw a black one the other day and made me not too sure.

The crackle black mirror was used in 1965 and 1966.

Not sure of the change point.

Thanks for the info.

I just checked through my pics of period photos and unrestored cars and it looks like the mirror change was Oct/Nov 1966.

My Mk1 is body number 1197 and, according to the Ausmini register, was made around April, 1966. It has the light grey later-style mirror.
Considering that internal rear vision mirrors were rarely targeted for aftermarket customising, I suspect the mirror in my car could be the original and so these may have been fitted a bit earlier than has been suggested here.

Is there someone who can make or has ball to replace my almost broken ball - see arrow.

Yes, I have a stock of the correct balls, but you have to take the whole thing apart - that is, remove the glass from the metal housing, to install the ball (instructions supplied) and then put the glass back in afterwards.
