I am rebuilding my original Tin Can master cylinders. I have put the kits in.

Does the shaft that connects to the top of the pedal require grease under the dust cap?

If so any certain type?

Thanks,

There isn't very much on that pushrod that needs grease but if you do want to lubricate it, a dab of RUBBER GREASE is the only grease that should be used in the master cylinders. Normal auto greases are petroleum based and not compatible with rubber used in mini brake systems. Most of the oil companies market a rubber grease.
I use rubber grease for assembly of the cylinders too.
