The other option is putting a washer underneath the thrust bearing. I did that to mine and it resulted in no more crunching when going into any of the gears and brought the clutch grab point up to the middle of the pedal where it was previously right at the floor! Cost less than 50c to fix.

I realised something was wrong after the slave cylinder was bottoming out before the clutch was fully disengaging^

Ha ha good idea about the washer. Cheap but a lot more work than extending the slave cylinder pin. Worth considering next clutch change.

You may find that since the ball on your arm was very worn, that the plunger was similarly worn. They effectively grind into the plunger mechanism reducing the amount of throw out.

I read a good article a while ago that calculated the effect of worn components, a few thou at the pivot point affects the throwing movement by a significant factor.

Out of interest, how much shorter was the new pin ? I bought a new one and now I wonder what the correct length is ?

I think this was the article https://www.minimania.com/Clutch_FAQ__non_Verto_

Figure 1, 2 & 3 are the explanation of how the wear in the system can affect the total throw. The nature of the lever multiplies the wear effect and if i read it correctly the thrust bearing only moves by 50 thou in a perfect system, and 30 thou wear on your ball-end could translate to 160 thou loss.

Hey Andosoft

When I get the new adjustable shaft and fit it I will measure the shaft that came with the new slave cylinder and my original shaft and put the information up. I didn't measure it at the time. As you have said, because there is a lever involved, there is amplification of any wear in the system and you only need a small amount of wear , or component differences in manufacturing of non original parts anywhere in the system to put it out. Thank god for Ausmini expertise to help us all consider all angles of a problem. :D

For what it's worth I have slave 2 pins here. One old and one new. I measured from the inside bottom edge of the pin hole to the tip and both ~78mm the older one was 0.4mm longer.

Not sure where the older one came from, I assumed it would need replacing given the rust on it. However the eye is in very good shape, and a better fit than the new one. It seems to have had an insert which the new one doesnt have, so I think I will keep the old one in.
