I am looking for suggestions for a good quality/sounding muffler for my Mk2 S rebuild. The car is fairly standard and it has been using a Lukey muffler since 1991, so suspect a new one will be needed some time soon. My K has had an RC 40 fitted for a long time and it is satisfactory. I bought a new one recently but it is a lot smaller in dimensions than the first one, so a bit doubtful about quality (unless there are different versions). Have been thinking about a single box Maniflow muffler. However they seem to be hard to locate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

I replaced a burnt out Lukey on my Group N Mini with a Walker 636 and it has been good and lasted well. That is on a 2 inch exhaust so it is loud (probably too loud for the road) but if you added a resonator like a hot dog in front it would be good. My road Mini has an early RC40 rear muffler with a straight through hot dog as a resonator and sounds good. |

I put a set of maniflow extractors, centre pipe and muffler on my car a few years ago - I bought the lot in one hit from Karcraft because I wanted to be able to fit it up without stuffing around with mis-matching parts. I don't like obnoxiously loud exhausts and this one is good. |

I see they (maniflow) make 1.75, 1.875 and 2" and single/twin box exhaust systems and std/bigbore and stage 2 lcb's. I am replacing a rusty, very old perry lcb and holey lukey muffler system on the mk2 S. Motor is currently in pieces (1310, balanced, good head, 649, std flywheel,45 weber) and is the next thing to do. So, +60, re13 cam, same head (reconditioned and new springs), lightened flywheel & pp, weber and re-balance. While the exchange rate is where it is, I was thinking maniflow stage 2 lcb & 1.875" twin box system - with your same reasoning of no mismatched parts. It wont be a race motor, so no point in the big bore lcb and 2" system. Noise level doesn't particularly worry me being a weekend car & the weber will drown it out anyway. Your thoughts ? |

Just measured, it's 1.75", and I have the extractors with the fatter centre branch. No idea if they're better or worse than the normal ones, but that's what is under the bonnet |

I used a maniflow medium bore 1.75 lcb and RC 40 single box muffler on my son's 1300 clubby. Looks S like, and sounds like one. Bought from Karcraft. |
