I have a distributor that i need to identify so I can get replacement parts. I 'think' it is a 25D style, but would appreciate assistance..

While we are at it. Is this suitable for a 1098 +0.40, 266 Kent Cam, GRE flattop pistons and Single HS6.

Hi, from the photo it appears to be a chinese made version of the 23D Lucas distributor. mk1 cooper S
It is a cheaply made replacement.
you can buy Rotors and cap as they are same part number as original cooper S
The module is not protected from reverse polarity, and generally if they dont fail in the first half hour, then they will continue to work fine.. You can buy the module from many places under different brands. Note they are -ve earth.
It may be a dumb module (switch like points) or it could be a smart module which keeps dwell angle the same as it revs up.
Depending on who made it, when, and luck it could have a number of issues including phasing of rotor to cap terminals, sticking advance weights, far too much total advance, totally unsuitable advance curve (guaranteed) etc
IMHO for your engine that has a significant investment, it would be better sending it to someone with knowledge and a distributor graphing machine to check it out and modify.
Unfortunately our labour costs may then make it a very expensive cheap distributor. Try and get an estimate of $.

What Lindsay has written is spot on, of course.
I bought a Chinese dissy purely to test and see what they were like.
I have a distributor graphing machine. It had w-a-y to much mechanical advance, the vacuum advance started working much too soon and one cylinder was firing a couple of degrees out of phase with the other 3.

I fixed it all up and it runs pretty well, but I wouldn't run one straight out if the box, especially due to the amount of mechanical advance it had!

I've modded a couple of these now. Both had 20+° advance as made. I reduced this to 9-10° by restricting the arm travel to 4mm by brazing the arm and filing it back.
Body is well made, bobweights are so-so and sometimes the magnetic ring is a poor fit on the cam.
But they work prett well, if you persist.

I second the comments above, Peak Ignition works great.

I had a further play with my Chinese dissy today.

I set it up in my machine and drilled a big hole in the side of the cap so I could check the rotor phasing.
It was way out. The spark didn't jump the gap from the rotor to the cap terminal until the rotor was 1/8" to 3/16" past the terminal! I tried to make a video but it was too difficult and hard to see.
I relocated the position of the module on the breaker plate to correct it and it runs smoother now. I had to adjust the idle speed down after reinstalling it at the same advance setting as it was previously.
I've got a few hours into correcting this dissy and it's now a pretty good piece :)

If you buy one, you really must get it checked out!!!

Off topic but related -
This rotor phasing is a major failing of accuspark etc 'black box' setups which have the centrifugal advance mechanism locked.
Except at TDC zero advance, the rotor is ahead of the plug wire posts.
At my 36° needed advance, this was 18°!!
I advanced the body so zero programmed advance was actual 10°, (5 dizzy degrees)so rotor was only 13° ahead.
This worked, but the system had spark scatter even with my timing belt cam drive.
So I sold it in favour of Lindsay's Peak Ignition system. No spark scatter now, and it needs 2° less advance. Very happy Jan.
