Is there a reason why some models are not represented in the registers?

I think the Coopers and GT were the first as they were the most popular and there were lots of people collecting data on them. Since then other registers have been put together as other models get more popular.

I have recently added another 8 registers but stopped at the YG2S7 Clubman and 021/022 Leylands. I have started to create registers for these but only have about 400 cars and the data has alot of gaps.

What models are you looking to have added?

Thanks for the answer, I was not specifically looking for any to be added I just wondered as I was searching through.
Let me also say I think your work on these is great and an asset to anyone looking for info.

The registers do certainly make fascinating reading..

I have a motor that I was told came from a GT.. Numerically, its one later than a car listed in the Registry ...but then I noted gaps of several thousand between engines put in cars that must have almost followed each other down the production line... And the engine of the last Mk II S must have sat around for ages before being installed....

The engine numbers were allocated in the UK but its hard to believe that the shipments to Oz came in such random batches...

Seems there’s an interesting story there...

Cheers, Ian

There was no attempt to keep engine numbers consecutive. Most came built up from the UK in large crates. Engines were removed, put through the Hot Run Test process then selected to be installed in cars by convenience rather than any numerical system.

The first register was the Sports 850. This was an attempt to stop the fakes being made.

I was wondering the same thing, as I was hoping to spot the Leyland Mini S that I bought new in 1975

Possibly in the link below. I did ask a moderator to check the link but perhaps it was deleted?

The vin does not apply to most mini's as the system came in somewhere in the 1980's . All you'll need for the mini is the body number which they'll probably call the chasssis number . If you PM me the numbers from the ID plate I can give you an age to go with it from the 850 register .

OK, that Register of Morris 850's was being compiled by Ausmini user sports850 (no longer a member but he is known). I mistakenly thought it was referring to a register of just the Sports 850 model.

All minis are special, but some are more special than others. Registers are kept on particular models because enough people are interested in keeping track of them, and one special person stood up and said "I'm going to start a register"

Someone who cares enough about a model may decide to start up a register, gather the information and keep administering it, but may not be all that interested in other models, or not interested enough to put in the effort to administer it, or may not find enough interest from the community at large.

I wouldn't run a register, way too much work for me, I have much admiration for the effort GTO puts in

Perhaps he did a sports 850 register too? It's a pretty generic term to search on the forum for, but I can have a look at some stage

Another important benefit of the Registers is the preamble that describes how to identify a particular model and what ID or ADR Compliance plates (if any) should be present. We know of many examples of people who have avoided being conned into buying a “replica” at inflated price when they were told it was a “genuine” Cooper S, for example.

The Mini community is much better educated than it was a few decades ago, thanks in part to the Registers being made public, and also gtogreen1969’s involvement in social media posts and this forum.

From memory a number of years ago I got in contact with sports850 and had him send me his register of cars (I believe he kept the private details private as in who owned them etc), I then forwarded this info onto a register keeper.
