SP3s came first then SP41s. Of course these were 145s... It wasn’t until the 70s that “wide oval” tyres became available and the Aquajets appeared.. (Terrible tyres IMHO... VERY sensitive to pressure and degree of wear.)

The Minis that conquered Bathurst used racing tyres ...when pretty much everyone used street tyres. There was at least one year in the 60s that Dunlop reported that they spent more money on developing Mini tyres then they did on the F1 program...

I think it was early in the HO era that Ford lost to Holden and took out large newspaper ads about how they were shafted by their tyres (Michelin XASs I seem to remember).

Cheers, Ian

Probably 165's won't fit under boot board because it was originally designed for 145's.

I had a new Cooper S in October 1969, the tyres from the factory on that car were SP41s

Just picked up this original Dunlop aquajet tyre from a mates 5/70 Mk2 S. It was on his spare when the car was purchased and changed for roadworthy when he sold the car. Brand newish, but never to be used.

Could you please run the ruler a cross the tyre as I'd like to know the depth as it sits in the boot and clears the boot board. With or with out the sound proofing mat in the boot ???

Many thanks

Still have the original wheels and tyres sold with my Mk2 S in mid 1970 (I'm the second owner). Definitely SP41.

Don't hoard much, but when I do... :D

Sort of glad I have kept these (have set of 5).

They came with the car when I bought it 40 years ago, were taken off and replaced with some wider rims very early on by the original owner.

For Firefly,
A couple of 145x10 Dunlop Aqua jets on "s" rims with a straight edge from the
boot board bracket to the top of the rubber stop. on the outer bracket.
Both cars have had the sound deadening felt removed......only just fit.
