Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to fit mini gears into a Morris minor gearbox. A mate has a Morris Minor cosmetically very original, it has an original 3 synchro gearbox in it and he is sick of grinding in first gear. He saw an old gearbox I had laying around, very similar looking internally to his and was wondering if he could make his 4synchro. Does anyone know if these are interchangable. (he does not want to put in a Celica 5 speed).
Thanks

Not quite that simple Makka- and apart from Mini boxes I've rebuilt Minor and Sprite ones too.
The basic design of the gears is the same/similar, cluster gears are the same as some Mini ones but there are lots of other things different..

Hi,
Thanks Doc, you want me to let him know that he'll have to take it easier on first gear.
As the gearboxes are not interchangable.
Thanks again.

do you want the good news or the bad?

The Morrie expert down here tells me that no standard Morrie, Sprite or MG Midget gearbox......had synchro on first

Dellows make an adaptor for Datto 1600, but most Morrie owners end up fitting Celica 5 speeders or another Datto or Toyo box ....

That's true, and the 850 Mini etc didn't have it because Issy didn't believe in it. 1st gear was only for getting away from rest, haha..

datsun 1200 gearboxes go in easily, my dad has one behind a converted 1100S motor, but tell your mate to stop the car before putting it in first, or get over it

Or learn how to drive without synchromesh. Now when i was a lad we didn't always have synchromesh and you learnt how to live without it.
