I have two new engine mounts. I have spent hours trying to line up the second one with no avail. I am very frustrated as I've been trying for 3 days. I have even tried grinding the living daylights out of the front and back of the mount and still I can't get it to line up. I have loosened the radiator bolts on the mount the other engine mount and this allows me to get both in but I cannot then get the radiator mount bolt back in. I even had a strap trying to pull the mount down. Nope not doing it. Whats everyone else's experience ? |

I use a screw driver to align holes. |

I weld the nuts on... every time, and I curse and swear when I work in a car that doesn't have the nuts welded... And if they won't line up, lift the motor again, give it a wiggle o e way or the other, then try again. |

I've pulled heaps of motors in and out never have had this trouble before. If I can get the mount lo enough to see the hole which I couldn't until I ground the mount down and manage to try and line the hole up it just bounces straight back to where it came from. Like I said I've done plenty of them before but never had this trouble. Was wondering if anyone else had....... |

I’d try fitting them prior to installing the engine. The new ones I bought didn’t line up with the subframe - the hole spacing was different |

Hi Timmy, as in you couldnt fit the mounts as the two holes were off? as I have had both ends in but it seems they are too fat/thick as it wont go down far enough. I have had both mounts in and bolted with the radiator mount top long bolt undone but i then cant get the bolt done back up....I assume the bolt goes crooked and wont line up with the welded nut. I have done plenty of these in the past and this is really got me......although i dont thinkn i have ever had two new mounts at the same time either. |

I can remember them being a pain but they always fit . Unlike Simon I hate the captive nut mounts. I spent 2 hours buggerising around with captive nut mounts then suitably peed off went back to the old type and had them all done in 45 mins. I use a tapered centre point punch to align and I never tighten anything untill all bolts are in with washers nuts etc on then I tighten everything up, but if they are too high they will never fit. You may want to find where anything differs from the old maybe where the mounts fit to the engine is out of whack or the mounts are not the correct size or something is bent / not correctly fitted. One end can aff3ct the other of course. |

Something has to be wrong. I have spent about 6 hours mucking around with it and it wont work. I have done plenty before so its not the first time. I was just wondering iof snyone else had the same trounble. I will see about the holes all lining up. |

measure a new mount to the old one different thickness ? is the subframe bent ? out of shape measure from mount holes to mount holes on the s one then measure your k frame c if they are the same you will soon find whats going wrong my money is on the engine mounts i have one hear some where was way to thick |

Nah, it's nothing, it's probably just because the radiator support bracket is sitting too far out. The long bolts that go through the alloy thingo end of the gearbox have a fair amount of slop in them, if you do them up tight with the engine on the bench but don't push the bracket up a bit it can sit too far out. Loosen them off and give it a wiggle |

Drmini slotted holes so they would fit due to poor quality if you have to goto extreme measures to get bolts in you will get a harsh ride |

It's worth paying extra for Rover ones. The captive nut ones used to be too thick too. And threads soft. I'm with Simon I mig weld hex nuts inside em. Edit These dodgy ones mentioned above were Quinton Hazell. |

I had same issue with captive nut variety from mini sport uk, spent hrs try to get them in, damaged thread also didn’t help had to tap one of them in place. Next engine pull I went back to standard mounts, I put a little grease under the sub frame side - slipped in and had them done in less than 10min. Will never use captive again. |

Hey Carter, I measured a new engine mount that I've had since the 80's. If you want to check the thickness, outside to outside it is 26.4mm. maybe warm them up with a hot air gun to to make them a little more supple or preload them over night. Just a thought, although I've never had a problem. Glen |
