I'm planning on taking the van on a road trip to Bathurst for the race next month, roughly 700k round trip. This will be the furthest I've driven it since getting it back on the road.

Aside from the usual service/fluid check, does anyone have recommendations for what else should be checked?

I've got a spare parts collection going - radiator hose, fan belt, distributor cap, rotor button, electric fuel pump, as well as a basic tool kit that should get me out of trouble if something goes awry.

Anything else I should think about taking?

One thing that I've added is a can of WD40 or similar to help with moisture in the dizzy cap when it's raining. I don't know what the caps are like on the later motors, but my 850 side entry cap gets water in it when driving in solid rain for a while. I've got a rubber boot thing on it but moisture still seems to find its way in somehow.
Motor starting missing and cut out when in town but easy fix.

I also carry a set of points and a condenser even though I have electronic ignition fitted just in case it decides to die.

A decent spare tyre, with air & appropriate wheel nuts (plus a socket for both)

Check your alternator rate of charge and your battery holding voltage.

Good luck for the trip; mine has never broken down more than 5km from home. BUT ......
Towing insurance? Spark plugs!! Plastic cover right across in front of engine to loosely cover all ignition electrics! Antifreeze in cooling system! Get battery checked at "Battery World" etc before you leave. Remember that wheel nut torque is only 42lb/ft (torque wrench)
Rylstone trip out west this year went well but your biggest risk might be pot holes; there were hundreds and the Councils cannot keep up with repairs. Plus more rain this week.

Or just the contact number as you can join on the spot should trouble arise.

Thanks everyone. I’ve got roadside assistance/towing through my insurance with Shannon’s. May just need to bump the cover level up, I think towing is only 70km from home with the level I’m on.

I’ll go through all the recommended checks as well.

an ignition coil. I assume you have got but missed on the list points/condenser or an electronic version.

Too many minis

I've only taken the Mini to Bathurst once and the only problem I had was a heater hose split. The 2 litres of water i was carrying was barely enough to get me to the next town.
Also do not forget to drive yours around the track when accesible.
