Post subject:  Black Stuff

I was thinking of using this stuff on the flappy rear windows hinge to keep water out.

I have had this stuff for 40 odd years and it is still pliable but don't know what it is.

Can anyone put a name to it. i would like more.

Pictures below show what I did with it in a couple of seconds.

Dum-Dum?

Wurth and 3M make versions of it still.

I think you might need some Butyl Mastic Tape.
It comes in a roll with a no stick paper back so it can be rolled out and trimmed to suit.

I bought some only a few years ago from a local automotive paint specialist.

I think its generically called dum-dum ..as previously mentioned.

It is called caulking compound, butyl mastic is used around a screen. Use urethane ,the others will dry out in no time in the sun.

With the help you have given (many thanks) I think dum dum has been withdrawn from the market many moons ago. The only thing that sounds similar is 3m caulk 08578 black.

The Wurth product is 0890100032 but it is $129.05

I did a lot of searching for a replacement for the grey version used on my Rover mini and Wurth was the closest match (cost me a lot for something I could have probably done some other way)
