Hi all. A long time since I've posted on this forum it seems.

I've recently acquired an original Morris 1100 S which has sat for some time. It's in overall pretty good condition so I plan to put it back on the road.

I reckon it's going to need new universals at the very least and as my experience of these, and Morry 1100s in general is non existent, my question to the Brains Trust is this: Are the unis the same as Mini ones?

I'm thinking QL5000PR are available for Mini and Moke at a good price but no mention is made of the 1100 series. Don't want to invest in a pair if they won't fit as the R&D'Luxe uses pot joints.

Anyone?

Cheers, Pottsy

Hi Pottsy, yes same rubber unis system, but being a heavier car they failed more often. The "QH" type are good, but as there is no rubber to absorb shock, the loads go through into diff output shafts more, that seemed to become the next weakness. from memory. Lovely car to drive though, so comfortable. Maybe will give a Citroen a run for comfort. Yes, the Auto was different. If you were taking engine out you could convert to Cooper S diff system. Thanks guys.

That's the info I needed.

Linz, I suspect that since this car will have a relatively gentle life in comparison to the Mini, I should probably go with the standard rubber ones anyway.

If I have to dismantle the gearbox I was contemplating either pot joints or hardy-spicers. I realise the diff o/p shafts would need swapping as well. But that'[s only if I need to rebuild. I'm hoping not as it's a remote change and my experience has been with rod change only. Much simpler!

Cheers Chaps, until the next conundrum. Pottsy

Are the output shafts on the Morris 1100 S ( 1275 Manual) with Hardie Spicer D/S the same as a Cooper S ?,

also are the output shafts on a Morris 1300 Auto with Hardy Spicer D/S the same as Cooper s ?

Given my lack of experience with both Hardy Spicer couplings and Morris 1100s, I'm definitely not the right bloke to comment.

That being said, since the 1100 is wider than a Mini I suspect the drive shafts are also longer than those on a Mini.

I believe there would also be an issue with spline sizes.

I hope someone more knowledgeable than I will respond.

Cheers, Pottsy.
