Post subject:  Pin that joins master cyl to pedal
well we put in reco'd master cylinder on saturday morning, i was on hand to get the pin out cos apparently its an absolute bastard of a job. well, after i found where it was it took me about 10 mins to get out. and about 8 mins of that was trying to pull the pin itslef out, then thinking maybe if i pushed it from the other side, then i would ahve something to grip on to. which worked a treat. getting it back in took bugger all time as well, just aligning the circlip was the hardest bit.

so has anyone lse found this job incredibly easy! anyone else?

oh and my brakes work now as well :D we spenT so long bleeding them!!!

yeh i have found this job pretty easy, but i must say that the extra 5 minutes to take the seat out really helps.

i must ahve doen that too many times. it takes me 1 minute, maybe 2 to get the seat out. definately a bonus!

i ahve heard so many stories of people having touble with this job, mine was just so easy! no rust in there at all.

Yeah well the seat taking out is a must as im 6ft 2.5 inch
i still found it a crap but didnt take to long.

with pointy nose pliers the job is very very easy. Without pliers it can be a nightmare. Also good is some gaffa or blutac on the end on a screwdriver. Easy.

I'm with coops, I actually like to leave the seat in...it's much softer than the carpet :lol:...

A bit of a contortionism never went astray :lol:

I havn't found it to be too much of a pain, that one i had in there though to get out was a bastard, it had a groove worn into it and i had to wiggle the pedal up and down while trying to get it out...the new one slotted in there like magic 8)

Like most things good maintenance is the go.

Mine had not had an easy life and had been subjected to far too many blows from the notorious FBH by a PO. Bastards too me 3 evenings to get out and they would still be sitting there if I hadn't resorted to dissassembling the master cylinder in situ so that I could dissassemble the pedal from the box and withdraw the whole thing out through the cabin. Take it down to the vice and have a decent go at it. One blow at the right angle is all it took, but the pin was history.

So a pair of new clevis pins and redrill out the burs on the holes they insert through and they work like magic. Nice long handled curved neddle nose pliers and it is under 15 seconds to get them in, 20 to get them out again [just checking] and another 15 to get them back in for good.

Tip from the Doc - use R-Clips much easier than split pins - verdict - he's right [again :lol: :wink: ]

It's easier on a Moke! Just unbolt the driver's side parcel shelf from the dash.

Took a bit longer than that in the Traveller some clever sod replaced the PIN with a NUT & BOLT uggghhhhh!
