The Tridon website shows incorrect dimensions for the CN1390. That’s what threw me.

Autobarn has the correct dimensions:

Good point. I've just sent Tridon an email pointing out the discrepancy. Will see what happens.

Had a reply from Tridon today, as below.

I have measured and can confirm CN1390 is 31mm in height. Please note that our measurements are used for identification purposes and can vary 1-2mm.

Tridon list the height measurement from the top of the radiator cap to the bottom of the retaining pin (the lowest point of the radiator cap).

It looks like Autobarn/CPC measure from the top of the radiator cap to the bottom of the rubber seal/gasket.

The difference between the rubber seal and the lowest point is roughly 5-6mm.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Got a Tridon CN1390. Same length. Sealing surface appears slightly smaller.

I think you'll find it will be OK.

I meant to post the following information earlier but got sidetracked. I've done it now as it may help others in the future who search and find this thread.

The Mini parts catalogue PUB1012 shows the following part numbers for radiator caps for different applications based on the engine number prefix, and hence capacity (e.g. 848, 998, 1098, 1275). As you'll see from the BMC engineering drawing they are all the same physical dimension with the release pressure being the only difference.

AYA2059 - 7 psi
AYA2060 - 10 psi
AYA2078 - 13 psi
AYK2050 (same as AYK2051 but with safety chain fitted for Moke) - 10 psi

Attachment:
PUB1012 C02-1 R.jpg

Engineering drawing AYH2092 has a table showing the above part numbers (plus other non-Mini, including the shorter version) with their corresponding release pressure. The supplying manufacturer at the time was Coutts, which I understand is now CPC.

Hanra - how does the dimensions of your new cap compare with the BMC specification?

I can’t read the writing. The old CPC cap was 38mm on the sealing surface. The Tridon is 35mm.

That diagram says the sealing surface is 1.5in across. That is pretty much 38mm. So the Tridon is too small.

Managed to source a couple of CPC NOS 508-13’s. I’ve also got the same type on the Torana. Although the manual says it should be a 15psi cap. I’m happy with 13psi.

I didn’t realise CPC no longer exist?

You can confirm they are the long neck version so suits your radiator?

Just wanting to set in stone after all this discussion exactly what the CPC and other makers part numbers are for our two types of Mini radiator.

I have done some work on this in the past, but bear with me.
There is NOT a long series recovery cap.
7psiLong 7psiShort 13psiLong 13psiShort Blank
CPC 506-07 507-07 517-13 508-13 2001

Tridon  CR0750 CN0750 CR1390 CN1390 TRC11
These are all non recovery
Short being the 19mm long neck being the 25mm

Tridon short (19mm) recovery cap is CA series so CA0750 7psi, CA1390 13psi
CPC short (19mm) recovery is 536-7 543-13

The last two posts about the CPC cap by Dave and Ken contradict each other. I was hoping for a clear outcome so as to help others not wanting to wade through all the research.

Sorry my fault I transcribed the list out of kilter.
I have edited it.
Ken is correct as is my edited list. Sorry for the confusion.
