I'm 2286, 2285 had it on the inner guard and looked original, I hadn't seen 2281's engine bay till you posted above. The bonnet slam panel punch must've been out of action that day

Hi all.. my Mini K body has a now front apron, the holes for the rubber bump stops are there as is the bonnet catch. Just wondering if someone with a MK2 could measure the offset for the horn location from a common datum? I’m getting prepped for paint and panel and would like to drill these before, obviously. My horn bracket is triangular and has the right angled bend, so it sits on the top edge of the apron. Any help is appreciated. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not super dooper interested in a concourse original type of build, it'll be a nice rebodied MK2 S, so sticking with the upper apron mount... looks like you have used the inner wing panel as the datum? (its a bit dark on the screen at my end), so 5" and 6 1/4" Awesome, thnaks gtogreen |

I have only seen about a dozen cars MK2 S with the horn attached to the flitch panel and no holes in the slam panel. It did happen but I would estimate less than 2% or 3%. My theory is that it was done if they forgot to put holes in the slam panel before painting and then went to their back up position. I have seen them use flat and right angle brackets. One can even mount the horn or horns outside the inner guard behind the headlight using an existing Bolt hole that holds something else like Brake booster bracket. This provides less cluttering under the bonnet. But this in not for the purists. |

The 2 holes for the Lockheed Booster remained on the flitch panel throughout the VH44 production period in 1970. They were standard holes punched out during panel production. The booster bracket spacing was pretty close to the horn bracket spacing. Not sure if the slam panel hole sizes were the same but going off the diagram below of a MK1 flitch panel the holes were 5/16" diameter and spacing 30mm. If the bolts were 1/4" diameter then there should be a bit of wiggle room anyway. I doubt the horn bracket holes needed redrilling. Attachment: Flitch Panel Layout.jpg
