What would you use for a distributor cover for a Clubman GT? It stalls when I get caught in the rain. Thanks

BMC made a couple of accessories to solve this problem. In addition some water repellant spray such as WD40, CRC, RP7 is a good thing to have on board at all times.

This part (HYL4234) fits over the top of the distributor and spark plugs to protect that area.



Later on they used a simple flat plate secured to the grille in front of the distributor.

This is the common solution offered by Mini parts suppliers.

Those who rallied a Mini (like me) often used a rubber glove over the distributor. The ends of the fingers/thumb are cut and the spark plug and coil leads fed through and sealed with tape to make water tight.

Another option when we were rallying seriously in our Cooper S was to drill a small hole in cap, glue in a thin breather tube and position up out of way. Then silicon cap to dissy and leads then WD40 everything. This was a modification the HOLDEN DEALER TEAM used to great success.

Has anyone got a cover like Doug’s photo for sale? I assume it will only fit with the later alternator/coil bracket?

Pretty sure my ex Police S came with one but don't know if it was fitted during Police service or by the next owner. I will check next time I access off-site storage.

Yes Doug, GuanMini has a Leylamd Clubman GT.

HYL4234 needs modification to fit over an oil cooler - the above distributor cover suggestion is better suited with oil cooler fitment

I still have one from back in the day, never had problems that I can recall, running it on my old mk2 S in the late 70's. Will be using it (hopefully! depend on oldtimers and it fitting) on the car under resto. If anyone is interested, I could ask a mate whom does fibreglass, carbon & other composites to make a copy of mine in your preferred medium. It would depend on demand for making plug/mould and then price. Vacuum bagged carbon would be nice (and light). I will have to find a complete car with oil cooler to check and make required mods if necessary during prototyping.

there are plenty of things you can do to help i have found a with new leads that seal tightly around plugs and cap and a nice tight fitting cap you shouldnt have much problems. I had massive issues it would start to sprinkle and i would drop a cylinder, and where the cap meats the dizzy was extremely lose/worn(old) replaced with a new cap and electronic ignition never misses a beat now

I agree. I also spray my 43D dizzy cap with WD40 once a year inside and out. I can hose the motor when running...

Wow, a wealth of information I would like to buy the original cover that came with the GT if there is any out there. For now I will try the WD40 method and gloves. Thank you
