They changed late in 1964. The changeover point was very similar to the Aussie boot lid with the narrower licence plate 850 number 51216 viewtopic.php?p=1064372#p1064372 |

I have a June/July '64 build, purchased new November '64. I'm the second owner. It has two piece hood lining and Aussie number plate. |

If it is a one piece there will be hood bow holes and extra brackets on a A and B posts for roof lining to tuck under 2 peice has none of that |

In July 1964 at YMA2S1 51216 the two piece headlining was changed to the hood and single piece lining. Detailed on page 56 of my book. |

I like the look of the 2 piece roof lining. |

I would think so. Don't forget you will need the 2 piece metal frame as well. And the 2 piece doesn't have holes in the can't rail that I believe the one piece does to secure the metal support rods... Cheers, Ian |

I believe the 2 piece frames are very hard to come by, so if you know where you can get one, I’d be nailing their feet down quick. |

MINIRO wrote: Will the earlier 2 piece fit into a later roof aperture without issues? I'm almost certain there was no change to the Mini turret and cant rails during the changeover to one piece headlining so a two piece should fit OK, provided any required fixing points or holes, if any, are there. Others may know how the earlier two-piece is fixed in place. |

Just had a look at my 63 Cooper to compare. It appears the only difference to be the lack of drilled holes in which to fit the hood bows. If you need I can look at another I have tomorrow to check if required. A word of warning if you are planning to drill holes and fit the alter model. The positioning of the holes is critical to ensure that the hood lining will pull taught. Recently found that the spacing on some cars vary from others and hood lining will not fit as required particularly towards the back window. |

Each of the two piece frames has an outer perimeter and cross pieces. They just sit (tightly) on top of the cant rails. You hold each piece towards the middle, bow the centre rod downwards and then slide each piece forward or backwards as applicable. When you release the bow, spring tension holds it all in place. Although, I have seen cars with a small Phillips head screw though the rear corners of the front piece into the cant rail. Cheers, Ian |
