Cleaned carbies and replaced oil, any experience with this oil.

I used it on my twin HS2. The oil acts as a damper to slow the piston rising, and each oil grade will get a different response. Your car may need thinner or thicker oil depending on the spec and tune of the engine.

Proper SU oil (according to my ancient SU handbook) was straight 30wt.

The 1963 Cooper Handbook says to use 10W30 at temps above 17.8C and that “approval is given to the use of Duckhams Q20-50...” This is a UK handbook but I can’t see underbonnet temps being that radically different in Oz conditions.

IME , if the engine is tuned properly, it doesn’t really matter. My engine will run “reasonably” well with no oil (don’t ask me:) but is a b&*6er to start....

If you watch the piston (on the dyno) when the throttle is suddenly opened, the piston will rise pretty much faster than you see.....

The original damper oli from Penrite was a different product to what it is now. I used the older but found it a bit thin. As Tim says different grade oils give different responses.
The original factory spec was 30 grade mono oil, over time it was changed to engine oil ie the same as you filled the engine with. If you ask 10 people what to use you will likely get 10 differing answers. The oil slows the rise of the piston to give an accelerator pump type response as well as mixture enrichment on rapid acceleration. It does not want to be too thick so some use engine oil, some use atf, some use 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil. I use 10 weight air compressor oil.
It will be a case of suck it and see, start with the penrite product, asses performance and change, or not, as required.

Just to add, the Penrite SU damper oil is rated at ISO68 which google says is equivalent to 20W sae

In my HS6 the Penrite oil was 3 seconds with the above method, it drove ok, but some thicker oil that was nearly 4 seconds drove better.
Going to a thicker oil again made it flat spot on gearchange.
I have the fast drop mod on the damper piston.

You can also use Auto Tranny oil which I have used many times
