Hi, hopefully this is the right section to post this

i'm pretty new to minis and i've been looking to around Perth for one to restore. This is the best i've found. I'm sorry but when i went to look at it i forgot a camera so no pics

Its a 78 Clubman 1275 LS (Nugget Gold) which a guy had bought to restore but has had for 3 years without getting much completed and wants to get rid of it.

-Im pretty certain it has correct engine and body numbers
-The body seems to be fairly rust free and the engine/bay is reasonably clean
-A set of disc brakes (not sure what type)
-A bunch of extra parts which he had picked up (seats, engine parts, dashes etc.) when travelling to the UK and from Aus
-The main things which need attention are the doing the electrics and installing the disc brakes

In addition to this he also has an identical nugget gold 1275 LS shell ( eight month '78 rather than the other which is ninth) without an engine or brakes. The body isn't quite as good as the other but will be handy for any parts or if i get another engine.

He is asking $3000 for the whole lot, which seems quite a good proce to me after browsing through the For Sale section and looking at used car sites. Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks

If it has a 1275, discs and a half decent body, buy it, can't really go wrong.
Even if everything is stuffed, they are getting harder to find

Sounds pretty good to me. :D

If it has the correct engine the engine number (on the flat piece at the radiator end of the block) should match the number on the compliance plate (on the firewall on the drivers' side but under the bonnet obviously)

Rust is the biggest concern for me this is time consuming and expensive to repair...

Is the paint work good or will it need a repaint, try to keep the original paint if possible or at least match it, cause these were only available in two colours (as you probably know).

Looks like you have done your homework re: prices, value, well done :D

Another spare body shell would be very useful too especially as it's the same model.

Go for it I say 8)

thanks for the replies,

the paint is ok and i'm intending to keep the original colour, although one back panel has been stripped for some reason and there are a few small scrappy areas around the car. so i was planning on repainting the panel and trying to touch them up.

Being a 1275 LS, then it's pretty much a must to repaint in the same colour. There were only 1000 1275 LS' made, 600 being nugget gold, 400 being hi ho silver. They are the most desirable Clubman, along with the GT. The second shell is also worth a little, and will keep going up in value.

The brakes on them were 8.4", which are the same as all the late model Mini stuff. When they built the 1275 LS', they imported the whole front end from England. So they have the 8.4" discs and the A+ engine and gearbox.

$3000 is a pretty good deal, IMO. What is the engine/box like in it?

Though wouldnt the presence of two 1275 LSs, both in nugget gold, with one person (like what are the chances of finding a 1275LS shell for spare panels for your 1275LS) appear a little suspicious................................... even if they are only clubbies? ;)

Good luck. 8)

And if you end out wanting to off-load that spare shell, you know where to find me

Some people DO seem to collect these things- my `boss' has 3- one goer (silver) one non-goer (gold) and a spare body (silver).

BTW Poeee, the Oz made 1275LS didn't have an A+ donk. That came with the last of the 1275 Mokes... we've got one in Barney. 8)

I would call it an A- not an A+
They had a few bits that are fitted to the A+ but they are not an A+.
I think that they are an Austin Allegro motor. :?

Just on the 1275LS, are the October 1978 ones with the "x last body shell built" plate on the dash worth a premium? Does anybody know how many cars came out with this plate?

I remember that the last cars had the plate but I can't remember if it is 50 or 25 or 10.
