Readers, I’d like to let you know about an improved resource on my web page www.leylandaustralia.com.au and that is, the BMC/Leyland Australia Knowledge Base. This combines all the functions of previous resources with the aim of having one search produce results for details of parts, vehicle codes, engine codes, publications, service documents, fastenings and standards.

The information so far consists mainly of documents that have an identifying number, such as a part number, TP number, or Pub No. etc. At some point in the future, the amount of material will be expanded to include things that are not numbered, such as sales brochures, newspapers, factory internal reports, memos and letters, and photographs.

It is not feasible to allow download of the documents due to the great number of them and the storage they take up, but the search allows you to match your query with a description of what you most likely want to know, or at least identify the document that you need to see.
The search uses some fairly basic SQL language select statements and a Microsoft JET database engine. Although there is some functionality to handle synonyms (e.g. Tail Lights and Rear Lights), it is not Google or Ebay. If there are any SQL experts out there, I’d be happy to work with them to develop a more sophisticated search algorithm.

It may take some experience to get a feeling for how the search works, but for those interested in documentation of this kind, I am sure you will find this interesting.
Regards
Tony
