I cannot for the life of me get this thing working and have come to the conclusion that it's a dodgy stalk. I have had this stalk for quite a few years and was bought brand new. Only the passenger side indicator will work but the drivers only gets a very dull light both with a circuit tester and on the car itself. I've pulled it apart cleaned the contact points but still does the same thing. Fine with the passenger drivers has the faintest power transfer. Is this a dodgy stalk or am I missing something ?

If it’s same problem as I had, it could be the connectors under the dash where they join from the stalk into the harness. Mine had badly crimped bullet connectors from the stalk harness that caused me enormous grief until I realised they were the culprit. This is especially so if the stalk has been replaced at some time.

Try installing a temporary earth from one the right hand rear light fixture mounting studs to the battery earth. Does that improve things?

Clip thanks for the reply. The wire isn't even going active apart from the tinest bit. If it were the same problem as you had the wire coming out of that Junction would be dull one end and bright the other? It's not even bright at the indicator stalk. DavidE I have 2 tanks in so will have to pull one out to check this. If it's the case what would the issue be ?

A poor earth because the securing nuts/split washers haven't bitten into the metal. Try a short jumper wire with a baby alligator clip on the difficult end.

I did buy a new stalk a few years back, but had to cannabalise the old one to get enough good parts to make the new one work.

Just annoys me so much. Was bought as a gift years ago to go towards my resto. Finally come to use it and it's no good......another 200 odd bucks for a new one I suppose...

Since it sounds like there is poor contact in the switch somewhere how are the cables connected to the contacts of the switch? It might be worth soldering the connection as it could be loose.

All wires on the stalk are tight. I have pulled it apart cleaned the brass/copper? Terminals and it still doesn't change things. Even the two little fingers don't go properly active when pushed to that side. However the other is fine.

Sounds like a poor connection or broken wire.
Use a test lamp with power to the supply of the stalk and move the probe of the test lamp along to determine where the break/high resistance is.
