Well here's something you don't see every day. An original page from the Sydney Morning Herald 23 March 1961 announcing the introduction of the Morris 850. There's a few details worthy of note here. The whole layout is a recognition of the diminutive nature of the vehicle, but also, the little play on words (nee Mini-Minor) announces BMC Australia's desire to give the new model a different name to that of its parent, the Mini-Minor of UK, and at the same time making sure the reader (in the absence of a picture) knows that yes, this new car is the Mini. The same advert appeared in major newspapers across the country but with local dealers' details along the bottom. Peter Lloyd, mentioned in the Sydney paper, was the son of G.A. Llloyd, BMC Australia's first managing director. Now, how to get rid of all those creases? |
