Here is what is causing me to look for a more original way of joining wires.

Your crimp bullet connectors do look inordinately long compared with the ones I use. A pair of them lined up is slightly longer than a joiner, you could use some heat shrink tubing, clear plastic covers or grind the end of each connector to shorten it so it fits within the joiner.
Shorter brass solder type connectors may be your best/cheapest/easiest solution if you “seek originality” as the connector cannot be seen.

To me your ones look like the Japanese ones which are a smaller diameter and should be a loose fit?

I think there are some open barrel Lucas ones which are short, the ones cooperess has look like the ones Jaydee sell which happen to be the right diameter to interchange with Lucas but I don't think are designed to be that way.

Your right 68+86auto. They are Jaydee open barrel connectors. They fit great diameter wise but not length wise.

I bought some and had the same problem as you so I am interested to see what solution is found.

I am trying to see if there is someone who can make a die suitable for open bullet (Lucas style) connectors as shown in my previous pictures of original bullets.

I wonder if regular steel would work well enough, if so then dies could be made by slowly filing the correct shape.

I may have confused others by saying open barrel. When I say open barrel I am talking about the type of crimp, meaning this part:

I was thinking with the right open barrel bullets a pair of carpenter pincers could be made into a crimping hex tool.

These seem to be available, just solder them (as per CGO's post) https://jaydeeautocables.com.au/products/lucas-style-brass-bullet-terminals# or https://classicfasteners.com.au/switches-connectors/?page=1

Many thanks for everyones input.

My basic thought was to use original style open barrel bullets and see if anyone was able to create a simple hand operated hex crimping tool maybe using carpenter pinchers. The current internet options are not that great. Even off the shelf wiring looms don't cut it for me. I have found bullets which may do the job but waiting for them to give me dimensions. https://www.autosparks.co.uk/electrical ... pack-of-10

I bought one of these from Autosparks
http://www.britishwiring.com/product-p/ast1.htm
It’s brilliant and works perfectly with the bullet connectors.
I bought their medium kit so you get 50 bullets for each wire size.
I’m using them for my 1982 Range Rover restoration.
