I was thinking there must be member here that can make a 2 part die that can be used to crimp a Mini brass open barrel bullet. One that you can put in a vice and crimp the wires with out having to buy a propriety $100 plus hand operated clamp.

I would be interested in getting such a tool for my Mini rewire.

Have you spoken to any of the people who make wiring harnesses for Minis?

No but I don't want a harness, just to make repairs or add items.

Oh dear. My suggestion was to ask them what they use when making new harnesses!

There are much cheaper ones that will do the job.

Hi, its very easy to solder them, just a little time and patience.Bruce, who built the entire loom in my rally car , which has about 150 soldered bullet terminals, showed me how. IMHO, those brass terminals are brittle, and some will split if you crimp them enough. cheers Lindsay

I used to use the brass bullet solder type connectors until I exhausted my supply. I inherited a few from my Dad years ago.
Lately I have used the crimp type with the tool shown. The crimping tool cost around $20 on eBay. I feel the brass ones make a better connection.

I have used those but they are too long and could short out.

I bought one of these sets and this crimper. I had many of them snap in two and many crimp failures, I had assumed it was either the crimp tool or me.

I do have some of the open barrel type Lucas sized bullets but I haven't liked using them as they need an additional boot otherwise the terminal is exposed and can contact other stuff as has been mentioned already.

I am thinking in the future for anything that doesn't need to be original I will switch to Japanese type bullets to save cost and they are easier to get.

Here is what is causing me to look for a more original way of joining wires.

Protecting metal extremities is the role of heat shrink tubing.
